Its more fashion than function. People try to rationalize about aerodynamics, road rash, etc, but the difference is miniscule.

Less drag in the water for the swim.
ok if you use a wet suit the “wax” help get the suit off quicker..
Yes, you go so much faster !
Lining the walls of your house with tin foil also gives you faster times !
Training and sound technique will never beat full body wax and tin foil linings.
Dude, get real.
Did your times improve after you yielded to peer pressure and waxed your legs like a good little fashion victim?
Less drag in the water !!? How fast can you people swim? Drag is simply not part of the equation.
Supposedly cuts down on the drag, especially in the water. If you are not particularly hairy anywhere else, I wouldn’t bother. The result is negligible unless you have excessive body hair.
Good luck in your triathlon!
There are two reasons to remove body hair:
1 – to smooth out drag (only useful for the swim, but if you use a full-body suit… where is the advantage?)
2 – to ease cleaning of road rash in the event you take a tumble on your bike.
If you wax/shave your legs, there is less friction between you and the road (as opposed to when hair stubbies get in the way…). As a result, you will slide over the pavement a bit easier when you are hairless. This also makes wound care easier as you dont have to worry about ripping hair out when you remove the bandages for cleaning.
It’s more of a fashion and aesthetic thing. If you have a decent body with some muscle to show off, which you probably do if you’re doing the ironman, then why not?
There probably isn’t a benefit in terms of streamlining but if you come off your bike, the gravel rash will be eased if you don’t have hair on that area of your body.
